As a result, Jefferson is the team everyone, including Eden Prairie, is chasing in the race for a Lake Conference championship.
“Our margin of error just got really small,” said Eden Prairie Head Coach Lee Smith. “We have to keep winning until we get them (Jefferson) at our place later in the season.”

For Eden Prairie, the tournament was a success. Facing three top 10 teams, the Eagles finished with a 2-1 record. Eden Prairie opened the tournament by upsetting then No. 3 ranked St. Paul Central. After losing to No. 2 ranked Hopkins, Eden Prairie defeated No. 10 ranked Osseo.
One day after knocking off No. 3 ranked St. Paul Central, the Eden Prairie High School girls basketball team faced a tougher task, beating the No. 2 ranked Hopkins Royals.
Worse, they had to beat Hopkins and Hopkins.
It didn’t work as the Royals pressure defense forced the Eagles into committing way too many turnovers. What’s more, the Royals size advantage limited Eden Prairie to too many one-shot possessions.
That combination allowed Hopkins to beat Eden Prairie 70-49.
Eden Prairie had cut Hopkins’ lead to 10 points at halftime, but that’s as close as they’d get.
