Hill-Murray girls basketball tournament: Chaska bows to host team

Hill-Murray edged Chaska 55-52 in the Hill-Murray Tournament semifinals on Tuesday.

Senior forward Mia Sandstrom had a season-best total of 16 points, same as junior center Ellen Degler.

Tiffany Van Haaften had nine for the Hawks, and Taylor Brown finished with five. Junior center Brianna Tisch had four points in the loss, and Brooke Brown had two.

Chrissy Holm led the Pioneers with 18 points, and freshman Tessa Cichy had 15.

The Hawks and Pioneers stand at 6-2 overall, going into Wednesday's final round.

EP alpine teams post 4-3 records in first competition of the season

The Eden Prairie High School girls and boys alpine ski teams opened their respective seasons Thursday with solid showings.

Eden Prairie’s boys team, competing against the likes of Minnetonka, Wayzata and Eastview/Eagan, finished the day with a 4-3 record.

Minnetonka won the meet with a perfect 7-0 record.

The Eden Prairie girls team, competing against those same schools, would also finish 4-3.

Lakeville South won the meet with a 7-0 record.

Today, Eden Prairie skiers compete at the Wild Mountain Invitational.



Nordic skiing: Chaska gets season started at Lake duathlon

Chaska junior Hanne Guthrie led the Chaska girls Nordic ski team with a 14th-place finish at the Lake Conference 5K duathlon held at Cleary Lake Regional Park, south of Prior Lake.

Guthrie skied the skate course in 8 minutes, 20 seconds for 17th place, and clocked in at 8:41 on the classic course for 23rd place.

Hawk sophomore Jessica Sorenson took 29th place with an overall time of 18:21.

Junior Jennie Sirota finished 38th in 18:56, with eighth-grader Claire Bulat and Andrea Lowder finishing 53rd and 54th, respectively, in 19:48.

Chaska Nordic ski team has new coach

Chaska High School announced the hiring of John Dyste as head Nordic Ski coach and David Paulson as assistant Nordic Ski coach on Friday.

“John and David came to us with glowing recommendations and absolutely enlightened us in the interview process.” Chaska Athletic Director Troy Stein said. “Both John and David have a lifetime and wealth of Nordic Ski experience and will serve as an outstanding leaders of our Nordic program.”
