Two weeks ago, the Eden Prairie High School girls swim and dive team put an exclamation point to the Eden Prairie High School falls sports season by placing third at the state meet.

From a team standpoint, the fall sports season was a resounding success. Including the state champion Eden Prairie High School girls cross-country team, four Eden Prairie teams advanced to state tournaments. Two teams, boys cross-country and girls soccer, finished second. The swim team finished third and the football team was one play away from advancing to the state semifinals.

Running as a club team (Eden Prairie XC Club), members of the state champion Eden Prairie High School girls cross-country team added a Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional Championship to their long list of accomplishments.

By winning the Nike race on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D., Eden Prairie advances to the Dec. 6 Nike Cross Nationals (Portland, Ore.).

Saturday, the Eden Prairie High School boys cross-country team ran to a second place finish at the state meet.

Wayzata, the pre-meet favorite, finished first with a score of 55 points.

Eden Prairie finished second with a 106 points. Moorhead (146), Owatonna (153) and White Bear Lake (164) finished three, four and five.

Aaron Bartnik paced the Eagles with a 12th place finish. Abdi Abtidon, Ayub Aden, Chris Mueller, and Bobby Davis finished 19, 21, 24, and 30. Erick Meszaros-Jone and Matt Beniak placed 43 and 67.

Chaska DECA hosts Turkey Trot 5K on Nov. 15

The Chaska High School DECA is hosting the Chaska Turkey Trot 5K race on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. on race day at the Chaska High School commons area.

The kids’ “Little Gobbler” 1/4- fun run starts at 8:15 a.m.

The kids’ “Big Gobbler” 1-mile run begins at 8:30 a.m.

The 5K race begins at 9 a.m., with awards following at 10 a.m.

The race will begin in the High School's West parking lot, go down purple brick road, take a right on to Hundermark Rd., take a right onto Pioneer Trail and go to Acorn Lane.

Cross country: Chaska JV teams dominate section meet

Chaska made it a complete sweep of the Section 2AA cross country meet by dominating the junior-varsity races with a pair of team titles.

The Hawk girls placed 12 runners in the top-20, including the first four finishers.

Sophomore Nicole Franz won the 4,000-meter race in 16:11.5, followed by junior teammate Sarah Woodland with 16:14. Sophomore Samantha Andrews took third with 16:30.1, followed 3.3 second later by junior Claire Schmidt.

Amy Holovnia finished sixth, senior Hannah Hoffman was 10th, sophomore Lauren Schwinghammer took 11th and sophomore Grace Peterson was 12th.
