Two weeks ago, the Eden Prairie High School girls swim and dive team put an exclamation point to the Eden Prairie High School falls sports season by placing third at the state meet.
From a team standpoint, the fall sports season was a resounding success. Including the state champion Eden Prairie High School girls cross-country team, four Eden Prairie teams advanced to state tournaments. Two teams, boys cross-country and girls soccer, finished second. The swim team finished third and the football team was one play away from advancing to the state semifinals.

Mikayla Clark, Taylor Uhl and Lesley Chilton, members of the Eden Prairie High School girls soccer team, were named to Class AA All-Tournament team.
The state tournament concluded Thursday with Woodbury defeating Eden Prairie by a score of 2-1 in the state championship game.
Woodbury has now won four of the last six state tournaments. Eden Prairie has played in the title game three of the last four years.
The Eden Prairie High School girls soccer team’s lead in Thursday’s state championship game was about as fleeting as fleeting can be. Twenty-seven seconds; that was it.
Eden Prairie’s Taylor Uhl (assisted by Lesley Chilton) scored the game’s first goal at the 27:42 mark of the first half. But before Eden Prairie could stop celebrating, Woodbury knotted the game at 1—1 (the Royals scored their goal at 28:09).
If the Eden Prairie High School girls soccer team wins a state championship, it won’t because of luck. They’ll have earned it.
To get out of its section tournament, the No. 4 ranked Eden Prairie Eagles defeated the No. 5 (Bloomington Jefferson) and No. 2 (Edina) ranked teams in the state. Tuesday, they knocked off No. 3 ranked Eastview.
Thursday (today), they face No. 1 ranked Woodbury.
As one might expect, none of this was easy. The Edina and Eastview games, for example, were decided by shootouts.
So?
Does history repeat itself? You bet. Two weeks ago, the Eden Prairie High School girls soccer team used a shootout to defeated the No. 2 ranked Edina Hornets. As a result, the Eagles advanced to the state tournament.
A few minutes ago, Eden Prairie used a shootout to defeat the No. 3 ranked Eastview Lighting. As a result, the Eagles advance to the state championship game.
Thursday (3 p.m. at the Metrodome), Eden Prairie faces Woodbury in the state finals.
